From my earliest years I have always loved stories of mystery and wonder. Tales from Nancy Drew to Jason and the Argonauts fed my imagination, and I yearned for adventures like theirs. My introduction to science fantasy (parent genre of space opera and planetary romance) came via Saturday morning cartoons such as Thundarr the Barbarian, or after-school cartoons such as He-Man, She-Ra and JEM.
Then, one magical day, a friend pressed A Wrinkle in Time into my hands. That was when I discovered that science fiction and fantasy existed in written form, and I’ve been a fan ever since. Stories of swashbuckling heroes, clever heroines, and feats of derring-do in exotic and fantastic worlds are what I'm all about, as a reader and a writer.
As for the basics, I grew up in a sleepy little town not far from Detroit. At Grandma’s house I played in the woods with my younger brother and our cousins. Real woods, where we could spend hours tromping about, without returning home until our stomachs — or the waning sunlight — alerted us to go inside and play some video games …
Once upon a time I was in the media business, to feed my stomach, while I wrote stories on the side — to feed my soul. I’ve worked at Marketing News and the Detroit Free Press, and now I’m happily in the imagination trade.
